Topographic survey

The ELLIPS UDP company performs topographic work in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
A topographic survey is a set of works on the creation of topographic plans and maps of various scales.

The most demanded is the geodetic survey of large-scale areas, which is necessary for conducting surveys and developing master plans for new construction, reconstruction, and landscape design.

Modern topographic and geodetic works from our company include:

  • topographic survey of the terrain on a large scale for design (scale 1:100 and 1:200), it is possible to create a three-dimensional model;
  • surveying the area and making topographic plans on a scale of 1:500 is the most common type of survey;
  • updating topographic plans and maps;
  • executive survey of underground communications.

Features of a topographic survey on a scale of 1:100 – 1:200.

A topographic plan made on such a scale contains a detailed drawing of objects located on the ground. the boundaries of the location of hydrographic objects, trees, landscape elements, buildings, networks, etc. are precisely defined. Solid horizontal lines are usually drawn every 25 centimeters in height.

Depending on the features of the terrain, this value may vary. For example, on hills, the height of the relief section will be 50 centimeters, and the density of pickets (shooting points with a height mark) will be increased and, depending on the slope of the hill, points will be given every 5-10 meters. Topographic work performed for the landscape design of construction and reconstruction can be carried out without reference to the GGS (state geodetic network).

A topographic survey can be performed in a conditional coordinate system without reference to the GGS and does not require permission to perform geodetic work in the architectural authorities. It all depends on the needs of the customer, the location of the object, passing through the survey site of engineering networks, etc.

High-precision topographic survey using laser scanning

Recently, the use of laser scanners in geodetic work has become very popular. With the help of such devices, millions of shooting points are obtained, which, after processing, take shape and a full-fledged three-dimensional model appears. A 3D topographic model can easily be converted into a large scale topographic plan. Unlike conventional topographic surveys performed with an electronic total station, the density of laser scanning pickets is thousands of times greater and displays all the nuances of the relief in more detail. Topographic work using a laser scanner also has disadvantages; it cannot be used in tall grass. The ideal place of application is the urban area. For “advanced” designers, the survey can be provided in 3D electronic form, it will be possible to superimpose a 3D model of the new building on it and get a more realistic view of the area at the end of the project. The laser scanner allows you to perform a topographic survey of territories at a distance of up to 300 meters from one parking lot, using an invisible laser without reflection. To bind to the coordinate system, the scanner takes points with known coordinates or points taken out using GPS. On our website, you can get acquainted with the use of the scanner not only in topographic work, but also in surveying facades, geotechnical monitoring, and road and construction expertise.

A topographic survey of the area combines the work of organizing topographic schemes or plans of the area using geodetic measurements and images of the earth’s surface, carried out from aircraft.

The totality of topographic and geodetic works is part of engineering surveys and is carried out both on the ground and in the office (processing of information obtained upon the fact of the topographic survey). The purpose of carrying out topographic work is to draw up a topographic plan of the established scale.

Topographic survey is a combined technological process that requires simultaneous interaction of specialists of different profiles of the relevant departments:
  1. The field department of the company is equipped with modern certified equipment of Trimble trademarks, which allows for the high-quality topographic survey. The use of digital coding allows you to automate the shooting process and speed it up as much as possible;
  2. The office department is responsible for drawing the digital terrain model in the AutoCAD program. This is where the information received by the employees of the field department comes in. The work of the cameral department employees is based on the use of licensed software and their own developments, which guarantees the receipt of high-quality and reliable results of topographic work.

Innovative technologies make it possible to perform primary processing of the received data right at the site of the study, and the possibilities of wireless Internet enable the workers of the geodetic team to transfer topographic survey data to a group of cameral department employees in a short time.

The quality and speed of the topographic survey for design, as a rule, directly depends on the equipment used. The ELLIPS UDP company uses in its work not only electronic total stations but also satellite geodetic technologies and locating devices, as well as laser rangefinders, measuring probes, and metal detectors.

At the request of the Customer, the results of the topographic survey can be transmitted both in writing and in electronic form (the company uses specialized programs approved by Geonadzor – AutoCAD, Mapinfo, etc.). The topographic plan drawing contains the generally accepted symbols of the GUGK, and the topographic survey is carried out in accordance with the current SNiPs and instructions. By agreement with the Customer, it is possible to carry out specific measurements and use special symbols.

A topographic survey of the area is the most popular type of geodetic research. On its basis, a digital model of the site under study is built. The need for it arises in the following cases:

  • Engineering surveys are being carried out;
  • Maps are updated;
  • Master plans and working schemes are drawn up;
  • Vertical layout solutions;
  • Landscaping is underway.

The results of our work at the output: a topographic plan in paper and electronic versions (in dwg and pdf formats), an electronic three-dimensional model in AutoCad software, a technical report in office Word, Excell software.
